چکیده

T he term ‘‘snapping bottom’’ was initially used by Rask to describe subluxation of the long head of the biceps femoris tendon at the ischial tuberosity, in what we believe to be the only reported case of this phenomenon in the literature. This entity was discovered by reproduction of the snapping during active hip flexion and with direct palpation of the snapping long head of the biceps femoris tendon over the ischial tuberosity. After unsuccessful nonoperative treatment, a tenotomy was performed; all symptoms were alleviated. There are several etiologies of the snapping hip, ‘‘coxa saltans,’’ which include snapping of the iliotibial band or gluteus maximus over the greater trochanter, snapping of the the iliopsoas over the iliopectineal eminence, and intra-articular lesions. However, subluxation of the proximal hamstring origin is rarely considered in the differential diagnosis. We present the case of a woman with coxa saltans caused by subluxation of the proximal hamstring origin over the ischial tuberosity. Institutional review board approval and the

External coxa saltans (snapping hip) treated with Active Release Techniques: a case report.

BACKGROUND The presence of painful coxa saltans (snapping hip) can be a debilitating injury for a competitive athlete, hindering both training, and performance. Considering the various potential etiologies, it often poses a diagnostic and management dilemma for health care practitioners and the success of treatment is often dependent on the practitioner's precise understanding of the cause. Snapping hip caused by a venous hemangioma of the gluteus maximus muscle: a case report

INTRODUCTION Snapping hip, or coxa saltans, is defined as a clinical condition where a usually painful, audible snap occurs during hip flexion and extension. Its causes can be divided into external, internal or intra-articular origin. Accurate diagnosis is a prerequisite to successful treatment. We report a rare cause of snapping hip which is different from any previously reported cases. CASE...

Snapping Hip Syndrome

Key Points • External coxa saltans is snapping due to the tensor fascia lata and iliotibial band flipping back and forth across the greater trochanter. • Internal coxa saltans is snapping caused by the iliopsoas tendon. • Intra-articular coxa saltans refers to a variety of intra-articular lesions that can cause painful clicking or popping within the joint. • Coxa vara and reduced bi-iliac width...

Coxa Saltans: The Snapping Hip Revisited.

Coxa saltans, or "snapping hip," has several causes. These can be divided into three types: external, internal, and intra-articular. Snapping of the external type occurs when a thickened area of the posterior iliotibial band or the leading anterior edge of the gluteus maximus snaps forward over the greater trochanter with flexion of the hip. The internal type has a similar mechanism except that...

Habitual dislocation of the hip: a rare case report
